However, the writer found out the inventor, Essay Anne Vanderbilt was a transgender woman. Though this fact did not affect the story or the product, the author revealed this information, when Essay wanted it to be kept private. After having the news revealed, Dr. V committed suicide. The publication should have been inspected further, and Hannan should have assured Vanderbilt that her gender would have been kept secret, instead he ran with it and placed it into a story where it was not relevant.

In this video, Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood speak out on the backlash they have both faced for being transgender athletes. They have mostly been welcomed in their community, however some students and opposing athletes have crated petitions stating they need to be placed in the male competitions.
